Resource: non-fiction book
Time: 1930-1939
Place: America

Summary:
This book is amazing, one of the best.  The author, Pulitzer Prize winner Martin W. Sandler, chronicles the dust bowl using quotes, photographs and expository writing.  He does this in an interesting way.  When the book is opened the right hand page is a photograph, the left hand page there is a title, a quote and a few paragraphs on the topic.  Topics include description of the historic situation, "The Endless Road", mini bios, "Poet of the Dust Bowl", or a focus on the photography "Portraying a Nation in Hard Times".  These vignettes are strung together, more or less chronologically, to create the larger picture.  The photos are thought provoking today as they were at that time.  The end of the book has source notation, photo credits, further reading, an index and a map.
