Resource: picture book, non-fiction
Time: 1470 BC - today
Place: Egypt/America
Summary:
A delightful read aloud, all the steps from the Pharaoh (Hatshepsut) commissioning the seven ton sphinx all the way to the viewer at the museum are recounted page after page in a “there was an old lady who swallowed a fly” fashion. With each new step important details are shared about the people involved like the sculpture, archeologist, and docent and so on. This book is about a particular sphinx (Sphinx E) in a particular museum (New York Metropolitan Museum of Art). Illustrated in full color, there are two pages of “more history” in the back of the book with more details for parents and teachers.
