Resource: picture book, biography
Time: 1849
Place: America

Summary:
First of all this book made me cry in the best kind of way.  This may be a "simple" picture book for children, but it is so much greater than that.  The first page, a forward,  is a non-illustrated, concise history of slavery in America, clearly meant for older readers.  The actual story of the book is simply a conversation between Harriet Tubman and God as Harriet makes her way 90 miles from slavery to the free soil of Philadelphia then her decision, called by God, to become a conductor on the Underground Railroad to free other slaves. At the end of the book is a brief biographical sketch detailing some of the known events of her life that are referenced in the story.
