How did the American government get  two houses?  It was a compromise, the Great Compromise to be exact.  Keith Hughs explains the whole thing in this YouTube video.  It was a compromise between states with big populations and small populations.  One house, the Senate, has equal representation from each state, the other house, the House of Representatives has representation based on the population.   This short video has some great information, told in a way that would appeal to the young people of today.
