Summary:
Clara Lemlich was a tiny Jewish immigrant.  When she arrived in America she found work in the garment industry.  The conditions were awful. She educated herself at night. She learned about Unions from the men at her workplace and lead the women on a strike.  The consequences of that was awful, but she returned and continued to fight for better working conditions.  When the entire union holds a meeting in 1909, Clara stands up and demands a general strike and leads the largest walkout of women workers in U.S. history. This huge strike gives others the courage to act across the country.  This gripping story is delightfully illustrated in full color with collage by Melissa Sweet.
