Resource: picture book
Time: 1834

Summary:
Ralph Waldo Emerson loved his house in Concord.  He loved his wife, his study and his community. He built a good life.  Thinking about books and nature, he wrote in his journal, then traveled out lecturing across the country and the world. Then, one day a fire destroyed the house.  Emerson was devastated. He went on a trip which rejuvenated him and made him miss his home.  I will not give away the ending, but it is beautifully tissue worthy. Quotes from Emerson are liberally sprinkled throughout the text.  There is an author's note at the end of the book which is brilliantly illustrated by Edwin Fotheringham.
