Resource: picture book
Time: 1800s
Place: America

Summary:
Molly Williams was an African-American servant of Mr. Aymar, a volunteer fire-fighter in New York City.  Molly would sometimes make food for the lads at Fire Company No. 11.  One day, while a wondrous blizzard blew, the alarm rang out.  There was a fire. Many firefighters, including Mr. Aymar, were laid low with influenza.  Molly sprang into action alerting others to the fire then she helped the firefighters put out the fire.  There is a lot of interesting information on firefighting in the 1800s, which is significantly different than how it is done today.  There are several pages at the end of the book with additional historical information, websites, and bibliography.  Illustrated by Kathleen Kemly.
