Summary:
Nelson Mandela was born in the Transkei region of South Africa.  His named was changed when he entered school.  The South African government pursued a policy of apartheid, separating white, Indian and black Africans.  Mandela fought for freedom from the time he was a young lawyer.  He spent a great deal of his adult life in jail.  He was released and elected South Africa's first black president.  This book is an inspiring look at this great man's life.  The illustrations are beyond beautiful.  Kadir Nelson is an award winning illustrator and with good reason.
